Velden was the fifth Austrian casino to open, on 14 July 1950. The continuous addition of new games and promotion of the casino as a tourist attraction quickly led to a sharp rise in the number of visitors. This made it necessary to enlarge the premises, and in summer 1974 an outdoor gaming area was set up, consisting initially of two tables. As it was not possible to enlarge the existing premises any further, construction of a new casino building was started in November 1987.
